KCI Continues to Climb the ENR Rankings

April 25, 2011

Sparks, MD

For the second straight year, KCI has risen in the Engineering News-Record rankings of the Top 500 Design Firms. The 2011 survey, published on April 25, nudged KCI up one spot to 82. KCI also held strong at 7 on the magazine’s list of Top 20 Telecommunications Firms and rose to 52 among the Top 100 ‘Pure’ Designers—up from 55.

In the accompanying article on the state of the engineering industry, Editor Gary Tulacz describes a positive shift toward economic turnaround. “For the first time in over three years, the construction industry is seeing signs that the deep industry recession has bottomed out and the market is turning around,” he said. “However, most firms believe the recovery will be a long, slow climb with some bumps along the way.”

Engineering firms are looking toward acquisition, international growth and alternative funding to support economic recovery. Nearly two-thirds of respondents foresaw an increase in their international presence in the next three years. KCI is looking to build on the international experience we’ve gained in Barbados and Aruba, while also evaluating growing markets in Asia and Europe. The firm is also actively identifying potential acquisitions, like ASC completed last summer, and is assisting local agencies identify alternative funding sources and opportunities for ecological restoration activities at Grand Lake St. Marys in Ohio.

“I was pleasantly surprised by our ENR rankings this year ,” said CEO & Chairman Terry F. Neimeyer, PE, BCEE, FACEC. “Moving up even one spot is further evidence that we’ve made the right adjustments and are keeping pace with industry and the market during these volatile economic times.”

Overall, the ENR Top 500 Design Firms saw their combined design revenue drop 0.2 percent—from $80 billion in 2009 to $79.8 billion in 2010. For more information or to see how other firms were ranked, read the entire article.
