At a luncheon on Thursday, June 16, the Baltimore Business Journal (BBJ) honored KCI and other local companies for their efforts in promoting the health and well-being of their employees. The award was given as part of the BBJ’s Healthiest Employers supplement, which recognized area companies with policies and initiatives promoting a healthy workplace. KCI was one of three finalists in the category of 500 and 1,499 employees. Other recognized companies from our industry include contractor Cianbro Corporation, construction manager McDonald Bolyard Peck, and architect Gensler, who were honored in other size categories.
The Journal noted that KCI is an employee-owned company and praised the firm’s “grassroots approach to fitness,” recognizing that although managers may approve funding, our employees initiate and manage many of our fitness initiatives, including the Biggest Loser contest. In the accompanying article, CIGNA’s health promotion manager notes that KCI “is on the forefront in how they are looking at wellness.” Quotes were also included from several KCI employees including Christopher Griffith, PE, CCM, (Chairman of the Wellness Committee), and CEO and Chairman Terry Neimeyer, PE, BCEE, FACEC.
