KCI Sweeps ACEC/MD Awards

KCI evaluated an innovative tidal pump design to circulate water in South Bethany’s inland canals.

The Maryland Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) held their annual Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet on the evening of Tuesday, February 19. KCI took home five awards including the coveted Grand Award for the top rated project in the competition.

ACEC first honored CEO and Chairman Terry Neimeyer with a Community Service Award for his years of volunteer service to the community and the engineering profession. Neimeyer was recognized for his work with the US, Maryland and Baltimore County Chambers of Commerce, his dedication and service to ACEC both in Maryland and nationally and his leadership roles with the Baltimore County Citizen’s Advisory Committee for Solid Waste, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the National Advisory Committee of Johns Hopkins School of Engineering, Advisory Board at the University of Delaware and the Baltimore County Executive’s Advisory Board on Higher Education.

Following the individual recognition awards and scholarships, the program turned to project excellence. ACEC received 23 project nominations, of which 14 were shortlisted in seven categories. Three of KCI’s projects were shortlisted and each won the outstanding project award in their respective categories.

  1. South Bethany Tidal Pump – Planning Category, Grand Award
  2. Mattawoman Wastewater Treatment Plant ENR Upgrade – Environmental Category
  3. Wisconsin Avenue Bridge Strengthening and Rehabilitation – Structures Systems Category
