Lancaster County Administration Building Wins Diamond Award

Lancaster County Administration Building Wins Diamond Award

February 06, 2012

Mechanicsburg, PA

At their annual awards banquet on February 2, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania recognized the Lancaster County Administration Building with a Diamond Award. KCI was brought in after construction began to provide quality control and accurate record keeping for the renovation project, which was experiencing delays and cost overruns. The firm's role quickly expanded to full construction management oversight, helping to bring the project back on schedule and budget.

The successful completion of Lancaster County Administration Building represents the best of what the construction management discipline has to offer. The $40 million project, which had fallen behind schedule and budget only 10 months after construction began, was turned around through clear communication, diligent organization, creative problem solving, innovative management strategies and extensive collaboration.

The complex renovation included construction of a 20,000-square-foot intermediate floor level; addition of the hearing room and holding cell facilities; energy-efficient/computer controlled HVAC and energy management systems; new roofs and elevators; replacement of the exterior windows, doors, and curtain walls; cabling for the state-of-the-art phone and video conference systems; and video surveillance and security monitoring stations. The project involved multiple-prime contracts for general construction; plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; electrical and data; and elevator construction work.
