Project Awards in Bloom this Spring
Lancaster County Administration Building
June 16, 2011
Sparks, MD
April, May and June are proving to be award-winning months for KCI, with five projects garnering honors through different associations and media.
American Society of Highway Engineers First State Chapter—Old Lancaster Pike was honored as Project of the Year in the less than $2 million category at the association’s monthly meeting in April. KCI provided construction inspection services for this Delaware Department of Transportation streetscape project, which improved pedestrian connections, enhanced the neighborhood feel, reduced through traffic, and addressed chronic drainage and poor pavement conditions in the historic village of Hockessin.
American Concrete Institute Maryland Chapter—At a banquet on May 26, ACI’s Maryland chapter honored the Greenmount Church Road Bridge over Murphy Run with an Award for Excellence in Concrete Construction. The project, completed for the Carroll County Department of Public Works, involved replacing the existing truss structure with a hydraulically in-kind single-span prestressed concrete adjacent slab bridge.
Construction Management Association of America Baltimore Chapter—KCI's Construction Management Practice accepted a Project Achievement Award for the Lancaster County Administration Building at an awards banquet on June 10. KCI was brought in after construction began to provide quality control and accurate record keeping for the renovation project, which was experiencing delays and cost overruns. The firm's role quickly expanded to full construction management oversight, helping to bring the project back on schedule and budget.
American Society of Civil Engineers Maryland Section—The MD 355 Interchange design-build project was honored at a banquet on June 14 with the section’s Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. The $25 million project involved design of a grade separated interchange via lowering Randolph/Montrose Parkway by more than 25 feet, which affected existing traffic, drainage and utilities. KCI worked with contractor Concrete General Inc.
Golf Inc.—This quarterly publication selected the University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Md., as its Renovation of the Year, highlighting the project in its summer issue. KCI’s Land Development Practice worked with golf course architects to relocate several holes, improve the speed of play on the course, and renovate tees and greens as well as fairways, concrete cart paths and timber bridges throughout the course.
