On Monday, August 8th, Mr. Bill Lewis will present “Getting the Most Value from CM Services: from an Owner’s Perspective” as part of KCI’s Project Manager Development Program. The presentation will take place in KCI’s office, and via webinar, and will serve to enhance the knowledge of our of CM Field personnel and our clients on the value of construction management services from an Owner’s point of view in the areas of cost estimating, scheduling, strategic sourcing, permitting and quality assurance. Mr. Lewis will provide insight on “managing the white space” and client’s expectations of construction management services.

Bill Lewis joined the Charleston County School District’s senior leadership team in June 2000 as the Executive Director of Capital Improvements and has just been selected as the district’s Chief Operating Officer. He is the program manager of the Charleston County School District’s building program which includes the $432 million 2000-2004 program, the $485 million 2005-2010 program and the current $509 million 2011-2016 program recently approved on the November 2010 ballot. He is a member of the district’s team participating in the four year Public Education Leadership Program jointly sponsored by the Harvard Business School and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute’s South Carolina Center for Sustainable Leadership and has been recognized by the Sustainability Institute for building the first LEED certified school in South Carolina.
Captain Lewis graduated as a civil engineer with a Bachelors and Masters of Science in 1972. In 2005, he was presented the Ohio State Distinguished Civil Engineer Alumni award. He also attended the Executive Program at the University of Michigan’s School of Business Administration. Captain Lewis retired from the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps after serving on active duty for 28 years in a wide range of public works, construction management and SEABEE tours all over the globe.
During his Navy career, he had the opportunity to work on many of the Civil Engineer Corps’ largest programs including; the $60 million Mission Control and Satellite Control facilities for the Space Shuttle program; the $220 million David Grant Medical Center; the $700 million Naples Improvement Initiative; and $500 million Aviano program. He also served as the Commander, Southern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command headquartered in Charleston, SC where he served as the Navy’s chief engineer for the central 26 states performing over a $1 billion of engineering and construction per year.
