Flickinger Honored as Young Engineer of the Year

May 17, 2011

Newark, DE

J. Ryan Flickinger, a senior environmental engineer, was honored as Young Engineer of the Year by the Delaware Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) at a banquet held on May 12 in Newark. With more than 11 years of experience specializing in modeling and design of water distribution and wastewater collection systems and associated treatment facilities, Flickinger is a senior project manager at KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined consulting engineering firm with offices throughout the eastern U.S.

Each year, the Delaware Section of ASCE recognizes a distinguished civil engineer with this award. Nominees are evaluated for their sustained engineering performance; character and professional integrity; community service; and commitment to guiding the professional development of young engineers in the formative stages of their careers.

“Ryan’s technical leadership and client rapport with the Delaware municipal market have been key to our growth and success in the region,” said Vice President Timothy W. Wolfe, PE, BCEE. “That combined with his dedication to mentoring students and recent graduates of local engineering programs makes him an ideal candidate for this award.”

Since joining KCI in 2005, Flickinger has taken the lead on securing funding opportunities for several municipal clients through a variety of state and federal programs and grants. His efforts have resulted in millions of dollars of principal forgiveness equaling more than 50 percent of the total cost of the associated projects.

Flickinger earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Delaware in 2000. He is a licensed professional engineer in Delaware and Maryland, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Public Works Association.
