KCI Acquires Jacobs Environmental

March 12, 2009

Sparks, MD

KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices in the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, has announced the acquisition of Jacobs Environmental Inc., a Maryland-based company specializing in industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, occupational safety and health, and toxicology. For the past decade, Jacobs has provided services in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia, as well as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Its sales exceeded $3.5 million in 2008.

Jacobs' employees, now working from KCI's corporate headquarters in Sparks, bring complementary expertise in industrial hygiene and environmental compliance, along with a strong portfolio of ongoing projects. Their addition allows KCI to expand its environmental services, as well as its industrial and private-sector client base.

"In addition to expanding our customer base, this acquisition helps us to better serve our existing clients by providing a broader range of services and a larger staff of highly qualified technical experts," said KCI Vice President Pradip M. Patel, head of the Geo-environmental Division.

KCI and Jacobs were well acquainted before the acquisition, having worked together on various projects for the State Highway Administration, Maryland Transit Administration, City of Baltimore, and Baltimore County, among other clients.

Bruce W. Jacobs, CIH, founded Jacobs Environmental in 1997. A recognized air quality and occupational health expert, he now serves KCI as a certified industrial hygienist and assists in expanding the firm's environmental, health and safety, and industrial hygiene fields. Jacobs has more than 30 years of technical experience in the environmental industry. A 1983 graduate of John Hopkins University with a master's degree in environmental health engineering, he is registered with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.

KCI is an engineering, consulting and construction firm serving clients throughout the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, as well as other parts of the U.S. and beyond. With revenues of approximately $142 million in 2008, KCI is ranked 88 on the Engineering News-Record's list of the top 500 engineering firms in the country. More than 950 KCI employee owners provide environmental, transportation, telecommunications, construction, facilities, and land development services from over two dozen locations.
