KCI Announces Move to "Green" Office Building
February 08, 2007
Hunt Valley, MD
KCI Technologies Inc., a Maryland-based consulting engineering firm with offices in the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, announced today that it will be moving to the Highlands Corporate Office Park in Sparks. The move will allow sufficient room for the company’s anticipated growth at its headquarters, from roughly 300 employees to more than 400, over the next few years.
“Although KCI now operates in ten states, our roots and our core commitment are to Baltimore,” said KCI Technologies Chairman and CEO Terry F. Neimeyer, P.E. “By building our new ‘green’ headquarters in Baltimore County, we are honoring our belief in preserving the environment while growing our company and contributing to Baltimore County’s economic strength.”
Ranked the second largest Baltimore-area engineering firm by the Baltimore Business Journal last week, KCI employs mostly engineers, environmental scientists, surveyors, planners and construction professionals. Its own engineers and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) experts will be involved in the design of the ‘green’ building.
“We need this commitment to protecting our environment from every business in Baltimore County,” said Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. “While every building cannot start from scratch, it is possible to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of virtually every building.”
Cignal Corp. in Timonium is building the four-story, 120,000 square foot headquarters to meet federal green building standards, utilizing systems design, architecture, landscaping, and site-specific design, as well as environmentally sensitive and energy efficient construction. MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services represented KCI in the transaction.
KCI is an engineering, consulting and construction firm serving clients throughout the U.S. and beyond. With revenues of approximately $124 million in 2010, KCI is ranked 82 on the Engineering News-Record's list of the top 500 engineering firms in the country. Roughly 850 KCI employee owners provide environmental, transportation, telecommunications, construction, facilities, and land development services from more than 20 locations.
