KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices in the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, accepted a Project of the Year Award from the County Engineers Association of Maryland at the associations Fall conference in Ocean City, Maryland. The Award honored KCI’s work to rehabilitate and strengthen the historic arch bridge carrying East Oak Ridge Drive over Antietam Creek in Funkstown, Maryland.

Built in 1833, the 143-foot-long, single-lane stone masonry arch bridge carries heavy traffic to and from the bustling local retail and business district. The deteriorated bridge was rehabilitated while maintaining the bridge’s characteristics and historic integrity.

For more than 50 years, the County Engineers Association of Maryland has created opportunities for development of new ideas and advocated for infrastructure throughout the state. Each year, the organization honors several projects that address the needs of that county’s citizens through cost effective and innovative engineering and construction.

Two other projects were honored by the association that night—Lusby Southern Connector Boulevard and the Solomon’s Island Roundabout, both in Calvert County. KCI provided construction oversight and inspection services for both projects.

KCI is an engineering, consulting and construction firm serving clients throughout the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, as well as other parts of the U.S. and beyond. With revenues of approximately $142 million in 2008, KCI is ranked 88 on the Engineering News-Record's list of the top 500 engineering firms in the country. More than 950 KCI employee owners provide environmental, transportation, telecommunications, construction, facilities, and land development services from over two dozen locations.
