Sparks, MD
KCI is pleased to announce the promotion of Douglas V. Goldsmith to Vice President. Goldsmith currently leads the firm’s Geospatial Solutions Practice in the Mid-Atlantic region. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the application of technology in developing innovative engineering, scientific, management and decision support solutions using cartographic and geospatial information.
Having served in several executive positions, Goldsmith came to KCI with a business background of 30-plus years. His expertise has helped him to recognize opportunities that are created even in troubling economic times, growing the firm’s Geospatial Solutions Practice by more than 175 percent in the last 20 months.
“Doug understands the geospatial industry, but also the significance of applying geospatial concepts across all of our disciplines,” said Executive Vice President Christopher J. Griffith, PE, CCM. “He isn’t afraid to challenge both his people and the leadership of the firm to keep KCI on the leading technical edge of the engineering community.”
Goldsmith joined the firm in 2008 as a Senior Project Manager and was promoted to Regional Practice Leader of Geospatial Solutions in 2011. He earned a bachelor’s degree in geography with a minor in geographic information systems from Towson University and continued his studies to earn his master’s degree. Upon graduation, Goldsmith was invited to join the faculty as an adjunct professor of geography within the university’s Geography and Environmental Planning Department. He is also a member and served as secretary in 2009 of the Maryland State Geographic Information Committee. In 2008, he was honored for his “Outstanding Contribution to GIS in Maryland” at Towson University’s annual GIS conference.
