Walter Reed Naval Hospital

KCI, under a subcontract agreement with Verizon Federal, provided design, engineering, and installation services to replace a defective 2100pair pulp communications cable. The paper insulated, non-color coded 2100pair underground cable had gotten wet and was shorted out, making pair identification difficult. KCI provided, design, engineering, field testing, supervision, and installation services to test, identify, install, splice and remove the defective section. The owner had specified a 3-day window for completion. Work was conducted over a scheduled weekend cut-over to minimize disruption to the facility. Work progressed around the clock in 12 hours shifts until the replacement was completed. The project was wrapped up 6 hours ahead of schedule with no cable troubles.
