KCI provided site and civil engineering and landscape design services, including grading, concrete mix design and construction standards and details for two skateboarding parks in Newark, Delaware.
Before Handloff Park and Phillips Park Skate Spots were opened, the municipality did not have an official skateboarding facility for its residents. After years of planning, the $180,000 project was funded by donations, grants and other contributions. The skate park project included extensive public outreach and input that was used to help develop the design.
The two poured-in-place outdoor concrete facilities were each uniquely designed to accommodate a wide range of ages and levels of ability. From quarter pipes and grind rails, skaters now have a safe place where they can get out and have fun.
