On-Call Value Engineering Services at Virginia Tech

Since 2002, KCI has provided on-call value engineering services to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University for a variety of projects, including a new 193,000-square-foot alumni center, two bioinformatics buildings, a 72,000-square-foot biology/vivarium facility, the 103,180-square-foot Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science Building, and a new 88,000-square-foot residence hall. During the process, we have discovered methods to improve performance, reliability, quality, safety, and life cycle costs and applied them to future projects. To date, KCI has recommended measures totaling $11.3 million, or 11.9 percent, in savings for the estimated $135.5 million construction costs.
