South Bethany Tidal Pump

Client:Town of South Bethany
Location:South Bethany, Del.
Services:Natural resource management, environmental engineering

KCI evaluated and further developed a tidal pump concept to alleviate water quality problems in the town’s inland canal system. Originally designed by former councilman and retired engineer Lloyd Hughes, the tidal pump will harness tidal differential (the difference in tides between the canals and the ocean) to push and pull water through more than two miles of underground pipes connecting the canals and the Atlantic. The movement of water will create new circulation patterns in the canals.
