I-70 South Mountain Welcome Centers

Motorists have a safer, more sustainable and more visually-appealing introduction to Western Maryland thanks to the new South Mountain Welcome Centers, located on eastbound and westbound I-70. KCI worked with design-build contractor Kinsley Construction to replace the original rest centers with a new facility that features the latest in sustainable technologies including geothermal heating and cooling, innovative water quality treatments, and local and recycled materials. Combined, the two campuses are the first operational facilities owned by the Maryland State Highway Administration to achieve LEED Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.
