KCI developed and hosted a comprehensive Internet-based application to facilitate the rapid retrieval of the extensive amount of data created by the statewide NPDES compliance program. The site, registered as www.msha-npdes.com, utilized a secure login protocol to enable access to the data. Features such as user registration and management were built into the application to allow the state the ability to administer their own site. Data included hydrology, roads, buildings, contours, tax maps, and orthophotos as well as project documentation. To handle the large amount of data being generated, we utilized MySQL 4.0 on Red Hat Linux 7.3 servers operating in a RAID 5 configuration. Currently the NPDES GIS application provides access to nearly 100 gigabytes of GIS and database information.
