Herbert C. Bonner Bridge Inspection
|
Built in 1963, the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge carries as many as 10,000 vehicles per day across the Oregon Inlet from Bodie Island on the north end to the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge on the south end along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Since 2002, KCI has conducted two biennial inspections of the 260-span Bonner Bridge. Our inspectors examined each structural element along the 2.5-mile bridge, including the concrete deck, fishing catwalks, girders, steel bearing assemblies, concrete caps, concrete columns, concrete pile caps, steel caps, and piles. We rated structural elements based on a numerical scale and provided NCDOT with a detailed condition assessment report in accordance with the FHWA National Bridge Inspection Standards. |
