FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUNT VALLEY, MD, May 13, 2008&amp;#8212;KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices in the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, is reorganizing its Southeast environmental services into a single resource management focus to better serve its clients in the growing environmental market. Vice President Joseph J. Pfeiffer, PWS, will head the new effort, overseeing the management and strategic growth of the firm's environmental operations in North Carolina, Florida and Georgia, as well as Tennessee and Indiana.

"We are constantly looking for ways to better serve our clients," said Senior Vice President Darryl J. Kroeze, PE, KCI's Southeast regional manager. "We think that this discipline-focused effort will help us meet the growing demand for sustainable development, stream restoration, wetland mitigation and banking, and other natural resource services in the Southeastern U.S."

Assistant Division Chief Michael Ray has been appointed acting North Carolina operations manager in Pfeiffer's place. He assumes responsibility for the operations and strategic growth of the firm's Engineering and Survey divisions in the North Carolina market.

Ray has more than 20 years of experience in civil engineering design, infrastructure management, and environmental consulting. Prior to joining KCI in 2006, he served as chief operating officer for Mulkey Engineers and Consultants, and as vice president for business development in the Carolinas region for ARCADIS. With a bachelor&#8217;s degree in architecture and a master&#8217;s in engineering management, Ray began his career as a civil engineering officer in the U.S. Air Force, focusing on infrastructure program management. Ray has been selected for promotion to colonel in the North Carolina Air National Guard. He has served on active duty twice since September 2001, with tours of duty at the Pentagon and in Iraq.

Pfeiffer joined KCI as an environmental scientist at the firm&#8217;s Maryland headquarters in 1988. In 1996 he undertook the development of KCI's environmental discipline in the North Carolina market. Since then he has expanded the firm&#8217;s environmental services, helping to establish offices in Indianapolis and Nashville, and he developed a design/build arm called KCI Environmental Technologies and Construction Inc. Pfeiffer was promoted to vice president and chief environmental scientist in 2001 and subsequently served as North Carolina operations manager. He attended Towson University in Maryland, where he earned a bachelor&#8217;s degree in natural science and a master&#8217;s in physical geography and environmental planning.

      <title>KCI Projects Win National Awards</title>
      <link>http://www.kci.com/technologies/news/current_news/kci_projects_win_national_awards</link>
      <description>
At separate awards banquets held on April 30, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Replacement project received the American Society of Civil Engineer&#8217;s (ASCE) Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award for this year&#8217;s most outstanding project, and the South Bethany Tidal Pump won an American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE) Excellence in Environmental Engineering Honor Award.

The $2.4 billion Woodrow Wilson Bridge replacement is one of the largest transportation projects ever undertaken in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region. The 40-year old bridge is a critical link in the Washington Metropolitan and Northeast United States regional transportation networks. Operational and structural deficiencies led to the design of a replacement structure&#8212;side-by-side, movable span, twin bridges&#8212;along with the reconstruction of four interchanges located along the bridge&#8217;s Maryland and Virginia approaches. KCI led the preliminary and final design team for the reconstruction of the I-495/I-95/MD 210 Interchange in Maryland, provided design support services for the I-95/US Route 1 interchange in Virginia and led environmental mitigation design efforts for the entire project. Project Manager Tim Kassir joined Division Chiefs Steve Drumm and Steve Carl in Washington, D.C., for the black-tie OPAL Awards Banquet, which also honored the lifetime achievements of several leaders in the civil engineering industry.

In contrast, the South Bethany Tidal Pump is a relatively small environmental project that uses a cutting-edge alternative energy technology to solve circulation problems in the canals of South Bethany, a small beach town in Delaware. Low water circulation in the canals has led to declining shellfish populations, fish kills and algae blooms. KCI helped the Town Council further evaluate and develop a concept originally designed by Lloyd Hughes, a former councilman and retired engineer. The tidal pump will harness tidal differential (the difference in tides between the canals and oceans) to push and pull water through more than two miles of underground pipes connecting the canals and the Atlantic. The movement of water will create circulation patterns in the canals. Division Chief Tim Wolfe, Group Manager Tom Sprehe and project manager Chris Overcash accepted the award for KCI along side Hughes and the Mayor of South Bethany.

Created to enhance and diversify the firm&#8217;s service offerings, the new business line provides specialized engineering services for security, fire protection, risk analysis, life safety and emergency management.

Neimeyer, PE. "Launching this business makes a lot of sense for a company like ours, which has been finding innovative ways to apply engineering and other technologies to new markets for more than 55 years."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUNT VALLEY, MD, May 31, 2007&amp;#8212;The National Capital Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) honored the Phase II Renovations Project at the Delaware Recycling Center with a 2006 Project Achievement Award, among projects valued under $10 million. At the April 25 awards banquet, representatives from the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) and Hunt Valley-based consulting engineering firm KCI Technologies, Inc. accepted the construction management award.

The Phase II Renovations project at the Delaware Recycling Center in New Castle involved demolition of a waste-to-energy power generation building, turbine building and the existing electrical distribution system; construction of a new electrical distribution system; and insulation of an existing 264,000-gallon water tank. The active recycling center remained open throughout construction.

To set an example as a proactive recycling center, DSWA offered a bonus if the contractors recycled at least 85% of the demolished materials. To monitor the recycling effort, KCI Project Manager Larry Holste tracked the weight of all materials removed from the demolition areas. He also helped the contractors identify recycling opportunities including reuse of materials on-site.

Holste dealt with several unexpected issues that could have snowballed into delays, costly change orders and claims for the owner. His diligent oversight and on-site management of the problems minimized DSWA&#8217;s risk, saving them time and money.

The project was successfully completed with no Requests for Information, no claims and no accidents. By being proactive in change order negotiations, Holste saved DSWA over $320,000. This savings exceeded KCI&#8217;s total fee, highlighting the effectiveness and value of the construction management services provided.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUNT VALLEY, MD, May 22, 2007&amp;#8212;The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Fish Passage Program, completed by Maryland-based consulting firm KCI Technologies, has been selected for one local and two national awards. On May 9, the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers recognized the program with an Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award in the small project category. On May 8, the American Council of Engineering Companies selected the project as a national finalist in their Engineering Excellence Awards competition, and on April 24 the National Association of Environmental Professionals honored it with an Environmental Excellence Award in Environmental Stewardship.

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Fish Passage Program opened 26 miles of historic spawning habitat through 23 separate projects, allowing the Chesapeake Bay&#8217;s migratory fish to reach spawning grounds that have been closed off by man-made barriers for more than 100 years. The program was part of the environmental mitigation program developed for the $2.4 billion Woodrow Wilson Bridge replacement project.

The Maryland State Highway Administration partnered with KCI to conduct national and international research to identify and adapt existing natural fish passage techniques to accommodate varying urban stream flows. KCI&#8217;s innovative designs required the precise placement of rocks and boulders to create ramps and pools, allowing fish to cross specific sections of stream. Fish passage projects were completed in five streams&#8212;Rock Creek, Northwest Branch, Sligo Creek, Indian Creek, and Little Paint Branch, each located in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The designs are intended to correct stream alterations caused over time by a mix of active and abandoned utility lines, concrete fords, dams, and grade control structures, which blocked fish from swimming upstream for spawning.

Never before has a fish passage project of this size, scale and type been attempted in an urban setting. To date, all 23 projects have been constructed and are being monitored to verify success. Many sites are now in their second or third year of monitoring and are exceeding expectations with respect to aesthetics and improvements in biodiversity. The project will serve as a guidepost for fish passage efforts in urban streams throughout the nation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUNT VALLEY, MD, February 26, 2007&amp;#8212;At an awards banquet on Friday, February 23, Baltimore Engineers' Week Council presented Hunt-Valley based consulting engineer KCI Technologies and joint venture partner Johnson Mirmiran and Thompson (JMT) with the Engineering Achievement of the Year award for the Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) Project at the Patapsco Wastewater Treatment (WWTP). Vice President Tim Wolfe, PE, and Mid-Atlantic Environmental Group Manager Tom Sprehe, PE, accepted the award for KCI and gave a brief presentation. The project is part of Maryland's ENR program, which set new discharge goals for upgraded WWTPs by the Year 2010, and will contribute to the health of the Chesapeake Bay by treating wastewater discharges into bodies of water that lead to the bay.

Completed in 2005, the project involved concept design development, detailed process modeling, bench scale testing, a one-year pilot testing program, and detailed cost evaluations to identify the best treatment option for the Patapsco plant. The joint venture team conducted an alternatives evaluation and prepared preliminary designs for the recommended facilities, which involve a biological aeration filter (BAF) process. Relatively rare in the U.S., BAFs are used throughout Europe and Asia. Only one other U.S. plant of Patapsco's size has implemented this type of advanced nutrient removal system. The Patapsco plant is the most complex WWTP design configuration to attempt this technology in the U.S.

The design team developed several cost saving options, which will potentially save $75 million for Baltimore and the counties. The team's design recommendations eliminated the need for design and construction of an influent pretreatment plant. The proposed design attenuates nitrification inhibition and incorporates wet weather flow diversion around new ENR facilities. According to George L. Winfield, Baltimore's director of public works, "The ingenuity and innovation exhibited by the JV in the execution of the project saved the city millions of dollars and resulted in a design of a very dependable and operator-friendly facility."

The ENR project is expected to help Patapsco WWTP eliminate 31 percent of the nitrogen slated for removal by 2010 by all 66 plants involved in the ENR program. The final construction cost for ENR projects will be offset by the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund, which was created through landmark legislation that was signed by Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. on May 26, 2004.

  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

  HUNT VALLEY, MD, February 8, 2007&amp;#8212;KCI Technologies Inc., a Maryland-based consulting engineering firm with offices in the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, announced today that it will be moving to the Highlands Corporate Office Park in Sparks. The move will allow sufficient room for the company's anticipated growth at its headquarters, from roughly 300 employees to more than 400, over the next few years.

  "Although KCI now operates in ten states, our roots and our core commitment are to Baltimore," said KCI Technologies Chairman and CEO Terry F. Neimeyer, P.E. "By building our new 'green' headquarters in Baltimore County, we are honoring our belief in preserving the environment while growing our company and contributing to Baltimore County's economic strength."

  Ranked the second largest Baltimore-area engineering firm by the Baltimore Business Journal last week, KCI employs mostly engineers, environmental scientists, surveyors, planners and construction professionals. Its own engineers and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) experts will be involved in the design of the 'green' building.

  "We need this commitment to protecting our environment from every business in Baltimore County," said Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. "While every building cannot start from scratch, it is possible to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of virtually every building."

  Cignal Corp. in Timonium is building the four-story, 120,000 square foot headquarters to meet federal green building standards, utilizing systems design, architecture, landscaping, and site-specific design, as well as environmentally sensitive and energy efficient construction. MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services represented KCI in the transaction.

KCI Tower Systems Changes Name to
KCI Wireless Services on January 1, 2002

Name change showcases expansion of firm's
technical services group

Raleigh, NC&amp;#8212;In a move to showcase expanding capabilities, KCI Tower Systems, Inc., is changing its name to KCI Wireless Services, Inc., on January 1, 2002. Founded in 1995, the North Carolina-based company employs 60 people and&amp;#8212;along with its sister company, Maryland-based KCI Technologies, Inc.&amp;#8212;is ranked among the top 20 providers of telecommunication services in the country by the Engineering News Record.

&amp;quot;We're operating on the leading edge of construction technology and telecommunications engineering,&amp;quot; said KCI Tower Systems President Timothy P. Donohue, PE, &amp;quot;and that's what makes us unique in the industry. Wireless carriers are taking a proactive approach to building systems. They're interested not only in 'getting it done,' but also in upgrading equipment to make sure that systems are going to keep meeting customers' needs down the road.&amp;#8221;

In the last ten years, the industry implemented a massive push to build new towers. KCI Wireless Services Senior Vice President Samuel J. Trinca anticipates that this trend will decline as carriers seek to upgrade existing facilities and install technological improvements to radio and antennae systems already in place. &amp;#8220;Carriers are learning how to operate and improve the industry&amp;#8217;s huge wireless platform, and the demand is spiking for firms that can provide a full array of construction, engineering, project management, maintenance, and emergency response services, all in-house&amp;#8212;particularly with regard to installing and servicing radio equipment. Our clients come to us because we're a 'one-stop' service provider. We're changing our name to reflect that broad-based wireless services capability.&amp;quot;

Based in Hillsborough, NC, KCI Wireless Services will continue to build sites throughout the mid-Atlantic and southern United States for wireless industry leaders, such as ALLTEL, Bechtel, SBA, AT&amp;amp;T, US Cellular, Cingular, Voicestream, Verizon, and Spectrasite. KCI Wireless Services also will continue providing construction and engineering services for microwave technology, radio installation and repairs, and antennae collocations, staying, as before, a few steps ahead of the ever changing telecommunications market. </description>

Trinca and his tower crews have built sites for cellular industry leaders, such as ALLTEL Mobile Communications, AT&amp;amp;T Wireless, Bell South PCS, and 360 Communications.

Colclough has served with KCI Tower Systems since the company's inception in 1995. With more than 20 years of experience in tower construction, he will lead KCI's plans for expansion in the mid-Atlantic region.

According to Donohue, &amp;quot;We forecasted the need for tower construction services as early as 1990 and capitalized on KCI Technologies' telecommunications engineering expertise to transition into the untested tower construction market. Since then, the company has exceeded all initial growth expectations and continues to operate on the leading edge of construction technology.&amp;quot;
