Northeast Region ISO 9001:2000 Certification

In October 2005, KCI Technologies’ Northeast Region received the internationally recognized ISO 9001:2000 Certification for Quality Management Systems (QMS), which covers the region’s roadway and structural design services; design management consultancy services; environmental and cultural resources studies, assessments, evaluations and reports; and bridge safety inspection, construction management and land survey services.

The quality standard will help KCI better serve the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and other clients in the Northeast who want to work with ISO-certified partners. Some units within PennDOT have themselves become certified. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a federation of national standards bodies with representation in 156 countries. Originally established in 1947 to ensure quality in the manufacturing industry, ISO has expanded its reach to include a broad range of standards for specific products and processes in private industry, government and public administration—from farming to food processing, from entertainment to engineering. Of all the ISO standards, 9001 is among the most widely recognized because it applies to management systems, something common to nearly every industry. ISO 9001 was updated in 1994 and again in 2000 (thus the designation ISO 9001:2000). Its purpose is to enhance customer satisfaction, ensure regulatory compliance and foster continual improvement in the overall performance of an organization.
