Terry F. Neimeyer, PE, joined KCI Technologies, Inc., after graduating from college in 1977 and was named president and chief operating officer of the firm in November 1995, chief executive officer in March 1999, and Chairman of the Board in December 2000. KCI employs a staff of more than 750 and is the largest employee-owned, multi-disciplined engineering firm in Maryland, operating 27 offices in 13 States—Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia—as well as the District of Columbia. With revenues of approximately $142 million in 2007, KCI Technologies is ranked 80th among the top engineering firms in the country by the Engineering News Record. KCI was also voted as one to the top 50 Engineering Firms to work for in 2003 by Civil Engineering News and top 100 Hot Firms in 2003 by Zweig White.
Leadership Roles—During his career, Mr. Neimeyer has served in numerous leadership roles. After making his mark as a project manager in the environmental engineering field in Baltimore, Mr. Neimeyer headed KCI’s Delaware Office and later managed the firm’s 14 regional offices. Early success earned him promotions to executive vice president and head of the firm’s Civil Engineering Group. After his appointment as president, Mr. Neimeyer expanded KCI’s engineering presence in the Southeast and helped to launch two successful subsidiaries, KCI Wireless Services, Inc.—a construction company that builds telecommunication facilities for leading wireless companies—and KCI Convergent Technologies, LLC, which provides negotiated and at-risk construction management project delivery services in the private sector.
Project Experience—As a project engineer, manager, and principal, Mr. Neimeyer has overseen many notable projects. For example:
Education & Professional Affiliations—Mr. Neimeyer graduated with honors from the University of Delaware with a civil engineering degree in 1977 and currently serves on the school’s Engineering Advisory Board. In 2000, the university selected him as the Civil Engineering Alumnus of the Year. Mr. Neimeyer earned a master’s degree in environmental engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in 1980 and a master’s degree in business administration from Wilmington College in 1985.
Mr. Neimeyer is a past president of the Delaware Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and is a past-president of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)/Maryland. He is a member of the Maryland Section of ASCE; the Maryland Association of Engineers; the County Engineer’s Association of Maryland; the Water Environment Federation; the Society of American Military Engineers; the Engineering Society of Baltimore (ESB); and Tau Beta Pi, a national honorary engineering fraternity. In 2001, the Maryland Section of ASCE named Mr. Neimeyer Civil Engineer of the Year, and, one year later, ESB bestowed Engineer of the Year for 2002 honors.
On the national level, Mr. Neimeyer is vice president and board member for the Design Professionals Risk Control Group of XL Design Professional, Inc., and chairs the Program Committee of ACEC’s Design Professionals Coalition, an organization of large-firm principals dedicated to advancing legislative action that enhances business opportunities for the engineering community. He also is an ACEC-certified peer reviewer and chairs the ACEC’s Peer Review subcommittee and serves on the ACEC Institute of Business Management Committee. In addition, Mr. Neimeyer serves on the Board of the Highway Contractors of Maryland. After completing a term as Chairman of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, he was recently elected to the U.S. Chamber.
As a professional engineer registered in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and North Carolina, Mr. Neimeyer coauthored two technical training manuals for the National Asphalt Paving Association. He also has written technical papers on designing above-ground landfills, protecting Delaware’s Inland Bays through the land treatment of wastewater, and using a dual-chemical treatment process to control the infestation of zebra mussels in Maryland waters.
Community Service—Within the Maryland community, Mr. Neimeyer serves as vice-chair of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and is a past-chair of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce. A past-president of the Maryland Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mr. Neimeyer sits on the organization’s Advisory Board, where his fund-raising efforts have contributed more than $50,000 toward finding a cure for a disease that affects the lives of more than 16 million Americans. He also serves on the CADD Advisory Group for the Baltimore City Community College and has co-chaired the Monte at the Mansion Committee for the Engineering Society of Baltimore. Previously, he served on the Ripken Learning Center’s Reading, Runs, and Ripken committee to raise awareness and funds for adult literacy and on the Maryland with Pride committee for minority business recognition. Mr. Neimeyer is a 1997 graduate of Leadership Maryland, which represents a diverse spectrum of executives who serve as catalysts for positive change in Maryland and serves on their Recruitment Committee. He is also on the UMBC Industrial Advisory Committee and the Business Advisory Committee of Dundalk High School in Baltimore County.
