Awards (Winter 2001)

The National Commercial Builders Council has awarded the Sailwinds Park Visitors Center its 2001 Project of the Year Award (Division II). Commercial Builder magazine noted that the project’s inspiring design “creates the impression of a rolling sail-powered vessel” and speaks to Maryland’s sailing heritage. The award recognizes the achievements of the project engineer, KCI Technologies; architect, Marks, Thomas, and Associates, Inc.; landscape architect, LDR International; contractor, Charles E. Smith Company; and developer, the State of Maryland.

In October, the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) honored KCI with its 2001 Engineering Excellence Award in the category of Statewide Construction Inspection. Joseph P. Serbu, PE, accepted the award for KCI at the 2001 Joint Transportation Forum, sponsored by WVDOH, the West Virginia Association of Consulting Engineers, and the Federal Highway Administration, in Charleston, WV. Serbu was joined by KCI Vice Presidents Lisa M. Brozey and Michael Marso.

Earlier this year, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Philadelphia Section, named KCI Vice President Walter J. DeLury, Jr., PE, the Engineering Manager of the Year for 2001.
