CM at Risk: KCI Launches KCI Construction Services, LLC

Recognizing the value of adding construction management (CM) at-risk services to KCI’s successful CM operations, KCI Holdings, Inc., launched KCI Construction Services, LLC, in February 2003. The new sister company of KCI Technologies, lead by KCI Senior Vice President Christopher J. Griffith, PE, and Operations Manager Jerry R. Myers, approaches construction as more than a commodity achieved through the low-bid process. The company provides comprehensive construction services as part of an overall strategy for minimizing surprises in the field, reducing project overhead costs, and expediting the project revenue stream.
” When you have a situation where the owner, estimator, contractor, and designers are all on the same team, focused on the primary goal of meeting the owner’s expectations regarding budget, scheduling, and quality, you can’t help but have a successful project,” explained Griffith.

“The lion’s share of our business will involve negotiated projects—advising the owner early in the project life cycle, linking the creativity of the designer with the practical perspective of the construction professional,” explained Myers. “We have one of the best estimators in the business in John G. Zera, Jr.; we have relationships built on experience and trust, and we select subcontractors that are financially stable, properly staffed, and committed to meeting budgets and schedules. But, we’ll also respond to ‘hard bid’ scenarios, using the latest in estimating and scheduling technology to manage costs for clients.”
