KCI’s streetscape and utility relocation designs for the MD 7 (Main Street) Project—MD 213 (Bridge Street) to South Street in Elkton, MD—earned an Award of Excellence in Partnering (Major Project category) at the 2003 Maryland Quality Initiative Banquet in January. KCI accepted the award, sponsored in part by the Maryland State Highway Administration and the Federal Highway Administration, on behalf of project managers J. Thomas Conklin (highway design); D. Scott Riddle (public utilities); John R. Kovacs, PE (environmental engineering); and D. Dwight Walters, PE (town engineer).
On March 11, the American Council of Engineering Companies, Maryland, presented a 2003 Achievement Award to the design/build team of KCI Technologies and Concrete General, Inc., for “innovative excellence in engineering design” on the U.S. 50 HOV Detail-Build Project. Senior Associate J. Thomas Conklin managed the project for KCI.
On the same night, the National Capital Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America presented KCI with its 2003 Honorable Mention Award (value less than $10 million category) for the Lexington Park Library, located in St. Mary’s County, MD. Gary B. Whipple of the St. Mary’s County Department of Facilities Management joined KCI Project Manager Ryan C. McDavitt in accepted the award.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Baltimore, has awarded the Sailwinds Park Visitors Center its 2002 Grand Design Award. In presenting the award to architect Marks, Thomas & Associates, AIA Baltimore noted that the project “is an excellent architectural design within its environment and ecology” KCI served as project engineer.
