Office Updates (Summer 2004)

Maryland

In September 2003, engineers joined Mayor Ellen Moyer (second from left) at ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Second Street Sewage Pumping Station in Eastport.Hunt Valley—Under a contract with the City of Annapolis Department of Public Works, KCI is studying improvement options for the City’s Water Treatment Plant. Environmental engineers are conducting a hydraulic analysis of the facility and recommending design alternatives for either covering the site’s existing clearwell or installing a new, one million gallon, covered, ground level storage tank; as well as relocating an abandoned tank to the site for storing backwash. Project Manager Timothy W. Wolfe, PE, expects to complete the study and submit a feasibility report to the City in June. If approved, the new construction may approach $1.5 million. KCI has assisted the City of Annapolis on several public works projects.

Ohio

Akron—As a subconsultant to Parsons Brinkerhoff, KCI will be providing environmental planning and utility engineering services for a proposed $60 million Intermodal Connector in the City of Cleveland. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is investigating alternatives for redirecting truck traffic from city streets to the interstate system or shipping channels, by way of a direct arterial connection. Akron Office Manager Dennis L. Gonano, PE, is working with the project team to finalize KCI’s scope of services, which may involve historic architectural and urban archaeological studies as well as environmental documentation.

North Carolina

Raleigh—The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded KCI a $350,000 contract to provide road design services for a three-mile section of U.S. 220 near Greensboro, NC. The project, located in an urban setting, involves widening the existing roadway from two to four lanes. KCI Project Manager Annie H. (Kathy) Lassiter, PE, expects to begin the design phase in July.
