Dear Friends:
KCI’s financial performance in the first half of 2000 has been phenomenal—far exceeding our budget—thanks in large part to our loyal clients and the technical expertise of our employee owners. Clearly, the surging economy is helping the consulting industry, but I’m proud that KCI’s level of success in relation to our peers is riding higher than the current economic wave. Why?
Our commitment to recruiting and training the best and the brightest people in the mid- and south-Atlantic regions has made us a recognized leader in our core consulting services. As a leader, we’ve retained the confidence of our existing clients, while cultivating relationships with new business partners.
Case in point: KCI’s wetlands mitigation work on the Maryland and Virginia sides of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Replacement Project underscores our reputation as the region’s firm-of-choice in environmental consulting. KCI scientists are developing conceptual and final mitigation designs for nearly 100 acres of tidal wetlands on both sides of the Potomac—critical work for one of the decade’s most significant transportation projects. Watch for an article highlighting the project in the Fall 2000 Innovator.
KCI’s operational successes in 1999 equated to a $1.6 million increase in revenues, prompting a 6.1% rise in the value of employee-owned stock. The revenue increase also enabled the company to jump two spots to Number 88 on Engineering News Record’s list of the Top 100 ‘Pure’ Design Firms for 2000. With revenues of $50.8 million in 1999, KCI is ranked 138 on ENR’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms.
Be assured that KCI will continue to expand the types of services we offer to our clients. In recent months, we’ve added historic bridge expertise, professional engineer divers, and fiber-optic routing specialists to the staff. In late April, we selected Jill Spiess Cutler, PE, to manage a new KCI office in Ohio, which will allow us to explore new markets to the West.
With a healthy backlog and a bright future ahead for the company, KCI remains committed to learning about and meeting your needs and those of the community.
