President's Message (Summer 2001)

Terry F. Neimeyer Since we last issued the Innovator, KCI Technologies has enjoyed a wave of good fortune. The most unexpected “win” was shared by our staff in Maryland and Tampa, FL, who cheered the Baltimore Ravens to a Superbowl victory. Within the company, we learned that KCI is now ranked 111 among the top 500 consultants in the country by the Engineering News Record—a dramatic improvement from last year’s ranking of 138. The April ENR also placed KCI 63rd among pure design firms and 20th among telecommunication companies. We use these rankings, which are based on revenues for the calendar year, to help us measure our strategic performance, and we thank our clients for their ongoing faith and commitment in our ability to serve.

In March, KCI’s employee-owners rode the next wave of good news, when the company’s stock value for 2000 appreciated by 69.4%. Our employees are committed to being the best in the business along the East Coast, and their performance is a fine measure of our strategic commitment to growth and enhancing technical expertise.

As evident in the Camp Lejeune civil engineering project and our environmental work in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, KCI is blessed with committed employees and loyal clients who bring technical skills and innovative solutions to projects. But being the best also requires looking beyond projects to the community and to the next generation of professionals.

During Summer 2001, KCI’s management team will meet to revise the company’s strategic plan. We will address our clients’ need for faster service delivery methods and study ways to expand geographically. With the recent preliminary award notice for a wetlands banking project at the Port of Memphis, Tennessee, KCI is clearly looking at growth opportunities beyond the East Coast.
