FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUNT VALLEY, MD, July 16, 2006 —KCI Technologies Inc., a Maryland-based engineering firm with offices in the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, was recognized by the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) for its commitment to the agency’s Disadvantaged/Minority Business (D/MB) program. SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen presented the first annual Administrator’s Award of Excellence to Senior Vice President Harvey M. Floyd, head of KCI’s Mid-Atlantic transportation group, at the agency’s Symbiosis 2006 Business Networking Fair on May 24 in Greenbelt, Md.
“KCI is truly honored to receive this award from SHA and will continue to foster partnerships with minority- and women-owned businesses in the future,” said Floyd.
As part of its D/MB initiative, SHA advertises minority hiring goals for each project as an incentive for contractors to partner with firms owned by women and minorities. Among the recent SHA projects in which KCI has partnered with minority firms are the I-95/MD 495/MD 210 interchange, and preliminary planning studies for a segment of the Intercounty Connector.
KCI’s minority commitment reaches beyond state highway projects. Over the past year, the firm put together an all-local design team that included 40 percent minority participation from five sub consultants for the transportation and infrastructure design work on an 80-acre redevelopment project in east Baltimore.
