FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUNT VALLEY, MD, December 1, 2006—Two projects, designed by Hunt Valley-based engineering consultant KCI Technologies, were chosen as the Best of 2006 by Mid-Atlantic Construction Magazine—Bell-Lincoln Multi-Cultural Center in Washington D.C. and MD Route 70 over College and Weems Creeks in Annapolis, Md. Both were recently honored at an awards banquet in Baltimore. A jury of seven construction, development and design professionals evaluated design and construction challenges and accomplishments for nominated projects.
Named best project in the “Pre-K to 12 schools” category, the new 325,000-square foot Bell-Lincoln Multi-Cultural Center holds 600 middle school students and 800 senior high school students. KCI worked with joint venture partner SHW Group to replace the century- and half-century old school buildings with the state-of-the-art combined facility. In addition to a three-story middle school and four-story high school, the new complex boasts a two-story multi-purpose building and an 800-seat auditorium featuring a partition and sound booths modeled after the United Nations.
The MD Route 70 (Rowe Boulevard) project was selected for the “highway, roadway, bridge” category. MD Route 70 is a principal arterial roadway that directly connects Annapolis and US 50, and traverses urban residential neighborhoods and two scenic waterways. Senior Structural Engineer Robert D. Lynch, P.E., led the team in creating a formal gateway to the historic state capital by rehabilitating and adding environmental and roadway improvements to the College Creek and Weems Creek bridges, and developing aesthetic treatments and landscape plans.
