FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUNT VALLEY, MD, May 11, 2007—KCI Technologies Inc., a Maryland-based consulting engineering firm with offices in the Northeast, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, is proud to announce that one of its own has been chosen as Young Engineer of the Year by the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Christopher Heyn, PE, senior associate and division chief of KCI’s Technology Services Division, was recognized at the ASCE awards banquet on May 9 at The Engineers Club in Baltimore.

Every year, the Maryland Chapter of ASCE recognizes an engineer, age 35 or younger, who has demonstrated superior achievement and dedication to his or her profession. In addition to being a registered professional engineer or engineer-in-training, a U.S. citizen and a Maryland resident, judges consider scholastic achievement, professional activities, engineering experience and accomplishment, technical papers, and civic and humanitarian activities. An employee-owner with KCI Technologies since 1993, Heyn was promoted to Division Chief in 2004. He currently oversees a team of 15 developers and analysts producing geographic information systems, database applications, Web sites and interfaces, public involvement tools, and computer graphics and renderings.

Heyn earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Lehigh University in 1993 and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in 2002. He is an active member in the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association and currently serves as a Director of the ASCE Maryland Chapter. Believing strongly in getting children involved in engineering, Heyn runs the Maglev Challenge, a middle school engineering challenge associated with Engineer’s Week. He resides in Westminster, Md.
