Awards and Recognition (1999)

MSHA Expo ‘99 Winners—In January, the Maryland State Highway Administration’s Construction Inspection Division, Office of Construction recognized 13 employees from KCI’s Construction Management Group with its 1998 Safety Award: R. Spencer Allen, Shahid Arifuddin, Thomas E. Ball, Mikhail Ginzburg, Abner “Butch” Haynie, Diane Middleton, Joyce A. Russo, Francis W. Schonowski, Paul A. Smith, Gregory Stoltz, Roger I. Tolle, Jr., Daniel M. Williams, and John E. Williams. SHA also acknowledged Dan Williams for serving on the inspection team for the Widening & Rehabilitation of US 50/301, West of the Severn River Bridge to east of MD 648, which won a Maryland with Pride project award; and Tom Ball, who worked as an inspector on the Rehabilitation of Five MD 355 Bridges over I-495 and I-270.

Above & Beyond—Maryland SHA recognized James E. Hall (CMG) for his efforts “under tremendous pressure,” following a pedestrian bridge collapse onto I-695 during rush hour in June. Jimmy is part of SHA’s Bridge Inspection & Remedial Engineering (BIRE) team that worked all night to reopen the highway by morning.

DelDOT Award—The Delaware Department of Transportation awarded Abdollah Pirestani (Newark) a certificate “in recognition of excellent performance in the area of Construction Supervision for the 1998 Outstanding Road Project, Old Coach (Henderson Road) and Pike Creek Road.”

KCI is MDOT’s Number One—The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Transportation Professional Services Selection Board ranked KCI first on its Fiscal Year 1998 list of selected consultants by number of projects and fees. With 6.9% of the total projects awarded, KCI won ten valued at $7.2 million.
