United States Department of the Navy Presents Certificate of Appreciation to KCI Inspector—On December 12th, the U.S. Department of the Navy presented a Certificate of Appreciation to KCI’s William H. Best for his outstanding performance as Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) for the Greater Sandy Run Activity Rifle Range Contract, U. S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, from July 1996 through December 2001.  As QAR, Bill was the primary on-site Government representative for the construction of a $44 million state-of-the-art complex of weapons ranges and associated facilities, including 81 miles of gravel roads, 17 miles of perimeter fence, 12 building facilities, 4 observation towers, two tank ranges, and an Infantry Platoon Battlecourse.  For more information on the Greater Sandy Run Area Project, read the article The Road to Training U. The ESOP Association’s Annual Award for Communications Excellence—On May 10th at an awards dinner in Washington, DC, KCI’s Corporate Communications Director Laura D. Johnston and Assistant Director Bonnie C. Lembitz joined representatives from the company’s ESOP Advisory Committee in accepting the national ESOP Association’s 2001 Award for Communications Excellence in the category Printed Materials, 501-1,000 Employee Firm.


ASCE Maryland Section Names Terry F. Neimeyer Civil Engineer of the Year—On May 9, the Maryland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (MD ASCE) named KCI President, CEO & Chairman of the Board Terry F. Neimeyer, PE, as the 2001 Civil Engineer of the Year.  Terry began his career at KCI in 1977 and rose steadily through the company’s ranks, earning a reputation for his technical expertise and business acumen. Since Neimeyer became president in 1995, KCI has enjoyed record profits, with the corporate stock value increasing 429%. In the past year, Neimeyer has been a dynamic voice for the engineering community, serving as chairman of the board of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce and as a board member of the Maryland Chamber. He also is a board member and past-president of the Maryland Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Engineering Society of Baltimore honors Terry F. Neimeyer—In February, the Engineering Society of Baltimore named KCI President Terry F. Neimeyer, PE, Engineer of the Year for 2001. The society also presented Terry with its Engineering Education Leadership Award for his service to the community and work as a mentor, encouraging students to pursue careers in engineering and science.

Maryland State Highway Administration Recognizes KCI Inspectors—
Paul Bender, Jr (District 5) and Francis W. Schonowski (District 4) were named Consultant Inspectors of the Year by MSHA.

Engineer Appears on Television Quiz Show Jeopardy!
KCI’s Karim Moore of Hunt Valley’s Construction Management Group appeared on the television quiz show Jeopardy! on December 19th and 20th.  Karim won nearly $2,000 and a ski trip to Aspen, Colorado.
