Tributary to Deep River Stream Restoration Project

Client: 3M

Location: Moncure, North Carolina

Services: Environmental planning and design

The Moncure Stream Restoration Site, located in the Piedmont region, was restored to satisfy compensation requirements for a 401/404 permit. KCI conducted watershed and stream restoration investigations along 4,300 linear feet of an unnamed tributary to the Deep River.

The final design for the Moncure Site consisted of Rosgen Priority Level 1 and 2 restoration of 4,930 linear feet (LF) of an “E” Type natural stream channel including the construction of a new stream dimension, plan and profile within the existing floodplain and planting the riparian zone. The length of Type E stream was divided between a 4,600 LF section that constitutes the main stem of the unnamed tributary to the Deep River, and a 330 LF section that conveys existing runoff from the land and ditches in the vicinity of the railroad right-of-way. The design also included the enhancement of 650 LF of stream channel located below the confluence of the two Type E sections, consisting of the installation of instream structures, bank stabilization measures and revegetation of the bank and riparian area. The site and riparian area have been placed in a conservation easement with a total area of 13.45 acres.

KCI developed complete design plans, construction/bid documents, and cost estimates in support of project letting. During implementation, KCI provided technical oversight to insure the accuracy and quality of the project construction.
