The 40-mile Baltimore-Washington Maglev Corridor is one of several projects in the country to have received planning grants under the $950 million Maglev Deployment Program, sponsored by the U. S. Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Since 1992, KCI has led teams in studying and preparing planning and preliminary engineering documents, including Draft and Final Environmental Impact Statements, to document how the corridor qualifies for final design, construction and operation. The team investigated potential guideway alignments and station locations, Maglev technologies, operating parameters, environmental impacts, ridership projections, and financing. The team developed an Internet-based GIS application and used on-line document management tools to disseminate information to team members.
