Location: Virginia
Client: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District
Services: Civil engineering, transportation engineering, structural engineering, planning, environmental engineering, hazardous materials investigation, geotechnical engineering, environmental design, surveying
Under this IDQ contract, KCI provided various types of civil engineering services. Services range from civil/roadway design, hydraulics, structural analysis, surveying, planning, landfills, UST’s, spill containment, and wetlands and conditions surveys. Tasks include:
Design of Closure Cap for the Landfill at a Military Facility, Va. KCI completed civil/surveys, geotechnical and environmental design services, including wetland delineation, for preparation of closure reports and contract documents for capping the landfill. Closure included evaluation of seven alternative capping procedures and subsequential negotiation and permitting with the Virginia Department of Waste Management (WDWM). Documentation included preparation of a closure cap report to the VDWM. Field work included test pits and investigation of acceptable borrow sites.
Design of Handling and Spill Containment Measures for the MIF Training Facility at a Military Facility, Va. Work included topographic surveys, drainage studies, assessment of existing containment measures, and design of substantially improved site drainage and spill containment systems. Site engineering conformed to Corps standards and Virginia DOT specifications.
Evaluation and Potential Replacement of Sewer Lines at a Training Laboratory, Military Facility, Va. KCI evaluated 1,000 feet of 6” and 8” sanitary sewer lines. Work included testing adjacent soils for contamination and video inspection of lines. The soil testing showed no contamination, and the video showed that the existing lines were intact. Because of the findings, the Corps did not have to replace the sewer lines and saved more than $250,000 in construction costs.
