Construction Management

In today’s construction market, the term “construction management” is used to describe a wide variety of project approaches. It is used to describe both construction management at risk, where the construction manager functions much like a general contractor; and agency construction management, where the construction manager functions as the owner’s representative. KCI provides agency program and construction management services as owner’s representative, with no vested interest in the project but that of the owner. In addition, KCI provides project managers and superintendents to lead multiprime construction projects. KCI construction managers are trained and certified to provide pre-construction support services through scheduling, estimating, constructibility reviews and value engineering, as well as project management and inspection during the construction phase. KCI acts as an extension of the owner’s staff to provide leadership and coordination to improve schedule performance, minimize cost overruns, and ensure quality.

We start by sending our construction managers into the field with all the resources needed to work efficiently and effectively, including laptop computers with a full complement of software; cell phones, PDA’s, digital recorders, and digital cameras. Our construction managers also come to the project with the experience and professionalism that allows them to handle projects of any size, and they are well versed in the standard procedures outlined in our corporate construction management manual.

We also send our construction managers into the field with another important asset: the backup and support of our combined staff of well over 1,000 professionals with expertise in all key engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, sanitary, and geotechnical. KCI has a staff which is capable of addressing materials testing, hazardous materials, environmental engineering, stormwater management and surveying issues on an as-needed basis as the project requirements dictate.

KCI employs professional construction managers. Our project managers, construction managers, project engineers, estimators, and superintendents have worked in the construction industry their entire careers. Many are Professional Engineers and Certified Construction Managers and pursue continuing education through the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and the Association of Building Contractors (ABC).
