Geographic Information Systems

Whether protecting an area’s natural resources or maintaining a city’s infrastructure, planners and engineers need access to large and diverse sets of geographic data. KCI Technologies offers Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and services for creating, managing, and analyzing these data sets to help clients solve critical planning and engineering challenges. GIS has proven to be a valuable resource for professionals in many disciplines. The technology combines the sophisticated graphic tools of Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) systems with the powerful data management functions of relational database management systems (RDBMS) as well as unique GIS tools for spatial analysis and mapping.

KCI has applied GIS technology on projects in virtually every technical discipline. In 1988, for example, KCI was one of the first consultants to use GIS to identify potential mitigation sites in three watersheds impacted by the construction of MD Route 100. Since then, KCI has been working in a multi-discipline, multi-platform environment, employing the best resources available to meet project needs. Teams have analyzed a potential corridor for the first U.S. magnetic levitation (maglev) vehicle, identified and mapped thousands of miles of storm drains and sewers for the City of Baltimore, and integrated transportation and environmental planning to devise a site master plan for Washington County, MD. No matter the assignment, KCI’s GIS professionals consistently demonstrate a mastery of GIS technology and its versatile applications.
