Merritt King is a Senior Vice President and Transportation Design-Build Discipline Manager. He originally joined KCI as a Vice President and Regional Practice Leader when the firm acquired Triplett King & Associates in 2012. Merritt founded TKA in 1997 with James E. Triplett but reorganized the firm under his sole ownership in 2011. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2017 and to Transportation Design-Build Discipline Manager in 2018.
Throughout his career, Merritt has been involved in more than 500 highway and bridge design projects as a design engineer, project engineer or project manager and has designed or managed 20 major design-build highway projects for DOT clients. With a thorough knowledge of bridge design and construction procedures, he understands the requirements for project planning and pre-construction activities.
Merritt earned an associate’s degree in civil engineering from York Technical College and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a registered professional engineering in multiple states. Merritt serves on the transportation partnering committee and transportation pre-qualifications subcommittee of the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina. He is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers and Associated General Contractors.
