For more than 40 years, 911 systems have served the needs of the public in emergencies and are being upgraded to a digital system, commonly referred to as Next Generation 911 (NG911).
This platform is helping to enhance emergency services by creating a faster, more resilient system that allows digital information to flow seamlessly from the public, through the 911 network and eventually directly to first responders. Serving as the system of records for addresses, street centerlines, and service boundaries, GIS data completeness and accuracy is essential in supporting the requirements of NG911.
Michael Baker’s DATAMARK division has been providing software tools for local government to enable generation and quality assurance of the GIS layers for NG911. Our team conducted an assessment of their version 1 products and provided recommendations for improvement. After the assessment was complete, Baker requested KCI’s continued support in evaluating vendors, conducting a requirements and design task, and leading the development of their next generation release. Today, the software hosts a nationwide customer base and helps jurisdictions ensure their GIS data quality meets the needs of NG911.
