The Maryland Quality Initiative recognized the Dualization of MD 404 project at the awards dinner during their annual conference in Baltimore, Maryland. KCI was a member of the team that was honored with the Bronze Partnering award, as well as the prestigious Project of the Year – Over $5 Million award. Terry Lehman, the MOT manager, and Fred Valente, the construction manager, were present to receive the award on behalf of the firm.
The project widened 11.3 miles of MD Route 404 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway, through an aggressive 18-month schedule. KCI served as the construction manager, provided inspection services and oversaw adherence to the project’s quality control plan. Our team employed its proprietary eConstruction Mobile Field Services (MFS) application to facilitate the accelerated design-build pace while overseeing the 24/7 work of three prime contractors and more than 40 subcontractors. Over the duration of the project, 20+ inspectors used the MFS to track more than 700 individual work items and submitted 4,000+ IDRs, each formatted to match MDOT SHA requirements. The technology improved quality assurance of inspection reporting by standardizing the data collection process, enabling the project managers to approve IDRs in real-time, and providing cloud documentation storage that supported auditing and summary reporting.
