The Florida Polytechnic University Innovation, Science and Technology Building recently received awards and recognition from three different industry organizations. As part of their 3rd annual Global Best Projects competition, Engineering News-Record honored this unique education facility as the Global Best Project of the Year in the Education, Research category. Earlier this year, the project was also honored with the 2015 International Architecture Award, the world’s most prestigious building award for innovative designs by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, in collaboration with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. Additionally, Civil Engineering, the magazine published by the American Society of Civil Engineers, featured this project in their March issue.
KCI provided geotechnical design and construction support for the $60 million building, the first on the new campus. Our team’s local knowledge and expertise proved critical when they acknowledged that a combination of strict settlement criteria and foundation requirements were driving up construction costs.
