KCI is proud to announce that the firm has been selected by ENR MidAtlantic as its 2017 Design Firm of the Year. The publication made the announcement in their June 19 issue as they released their annual top firms list, which is based on work performed in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. This year, KCI shot up to 9th from the 13th spot in 2016. The firm has been ranked nationally among ENR’s top 100 engineering firms for the last 12 years, landing at 75 this year.
The firm experienced unprecedented growth in 2016 both within the Mid-Atlantic region and nationwide. KCI’s revenues jumped more than 20 percent over 2015, growing from $110 to $134 million in the Mid-Atlantic, and $169 to $205 million nationally. Overall, the firm’s professional staff grew by more than 250 individuals, or 20 percent, adding more than 100 new employees in the Mid-Atlantic area alone. In addition, under contract backlog at the end of 2016 was 35% higher than the year prior.
We directly attribute our performance to our incredible team of employee owners. Their hard work and dedication drive the company forward. They embrace our culture and deliver that experience directly to our clients.
Nathan J. Beil, PE, D.WREChief Executive Officer/President
Several of KCI’s projects and initiatives were highlighted in the story and prior blog post, including work on reconstruction of MD Route 404, the Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Piscataway Hills Landslide Stabilization. The latter two projects have been recognized recently with industry awards from the Water and Wastes Digest, the American Council of Engineering Companies / Maryland, the Maryland Quality Initiative, the American Society of Civil Engineers, The Engineers Club, and the County Engineers Association of Maryland.
The recognition by ENR is a formal acknowledgment by the industry of the strides KCI has made over the years. None of which would be possible without our clients offering us opportunities and our employee owners delivering solutions. And for that, we thank them both.
Christopher J. Griffith, PE, CCMChief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President
