KCI welcomes Dewayne L. Sykes, PE, CPM, as highway practice leader in Raleigh.
Sykes brings to the firm nearly 40 years of experience in highway design and a thorough understanding of the highway project development process and utility relocation within the state. Prior to joining KCI, he spent most of his career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). His experience includes overseeing highway design staff and directing the design of major interstate, freeway, arterial, local and collector highways. In 2010, he was asked to lead the organization’s new utilities unit.
“Dewayne will be a tremendous asset to our Carolinas operation both because of his NCDOT experience in highway design and utilities, and his established reputation in the transportation industry,” said Harvey Floyd, PE, previous Executive Vice President and Chief Knowledge Officer. “With his leadership, we hope to expand our highway and utility capabilities in North and South Carolina as well as Virginia.”
Sykes is both a registered professional engineer and certified public manager. He has presented at several industry conferences held by the North Carolina Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations and the Transportation Research Board. Sykes co-chaired the American Council of Engineering Companies/NCDOT Joint Conference for six years and is a past president of the American Society for Highway Engineers Carolina Triangle Section. He also previously served as a member of the North Carolina 811 Damage Prevention Board and the NCDOT Local Planning Organization Committee.
