The City of Laurel Multiservice Center renovation project was recently recognized by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) DC/Maryland Chapter with an Award of Excellence for Best Renovation – Adaptive Reuse.
The award honors a project that transforms a vacant or underutilized commercial building into a new facility, revitalizing the surrounding community through rehabilitation. The City of Laurel Multiservice Center renovation project was formally honored at the NAIOP’s annual Awards of Excellence Gala in Washington, DC.
To support the renovation of an abandoned sports facility into a multi-use community center, KCI performed survey, subsurface utility engineering, geotechnical, civil, environmental, traffic, structural, fire protection, and construction management services while acting as a full agent for the City of Laurel. The new facility offers a myriad of amenities including short- to long-term residential rooms for those who suffer an income gap, sleeping quarters for men and women during the winter, disaster relief materials, full showers, free laundry machines, a basketball court, hair studio, a medical/dental suite, a food pantry storage and serving area, a clothing distribution center, and more.
