KCI collaborated with Morgan State University (MSU) to accomplish the $27 million renovation of the Hurt Gym, providing construction management services for the facility’s transformation.
Renovations to the gym improved the fitness center, dance studio, training rooms, locker rooms, and multi-use spaces. Our team was responsible for providing various owner’s representative services throughout the project timeline, including schedule monitoring and coordination with MSU staff, project documentation and reporting, and change order reviewal and sign-off.
Made possible through a partnership with the Maryland Clean Energy Center and Siemens, MSU’s renovations centered around energy conservation and sustainability. The facility’s mechanical and lighting systems were upgraded to feature new energy efficient systems. Across the entire campus, antiquated controls were replaced with new submetering systems, exterior pole lights replaced with LED lights, outdated dormitory AC units were upgraded, and aerators were added to sinks for water conservation. New HVAC and BAS systems were installed to manage building climate, lighting, and energy across the entire institution, with a graphical user interface for campus technicians.
As the project progressed, KCI mitigated complications, including supply chain delays created by the pandemic and asbestos concerns discovered during construction. Ensuring successful completion, our team worked closely with MSU’s staff to accomplish all tasks regardless of any challenges.
