The Charles County Resilience Authority aimed to address both existing and future flooding issues throughout the county, with a specific focus on the Swan Point community.

This large residential development, which includes 320 homes, a golf course, and undeveloped properties adjacent to the Potomac Estuary, has faced longstanding drainage and flooding problems. KCI was contracted to conduct a thorough inspection and evaluation of 145 drainage structures, 108 conveyance pipes, and five stormwater management facilities in the area. Facing challenges such as submerged pipes and tidal influences, engineers utilized innovative methods and tools to perform inspections and model future climate change projections.

Our team then prepared a detailed report and feasibility study outlining our findings, along with recommendations, maintenance activities, and cost estimates to address deficiencies. Working closely with community stakeholders, our comprehensive recommendations underscored the need for improvements, helping secure grant funding for the projects. Pleased with our dedication and collaboration, the Resilience Authority has asked KCI to provide full design services for all recommended improvements, ensuring long-term climate resiliency and adherence to current standards.
