Skeet Club Road

Guilford County, North Carolina

Issued as a standard relocation task under an open-end contract, KCI provided utility coordination for the 3.4-mile widening of Skeet Club Road from two to four lanes. Several months into the schedule, the team uncovered an incorrect right-of-way property line on the drawings provided by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

We had to redesign the plans and work together as a team to get the project to the point where each utility could relocate at a reasonable cost.

The Skeet Club Road bridge was found to be located in an easement actually belonging to Colonial Pipeline, instead of NCDOT. Faced with relocation of the gas transmission lines now adding $14 million to the construction cost, our team developed an alternative that adjusted the roadway bridge using SUE data and called for a second bridge, which together allowed the existing gas lines to remain in place.
