Nolensville Pike, known as Nashville’s “international corridor,” has been a focus of planning and engineering initiatives over the past 10 years. Safety, placemaking, and community engagement have been at the forefront.
In 2022, the corridor was identified as a high priority on Nashville’s Vision Zero High Injury Network. Taking advantage of the new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program, NDOT specifically requested KCI to develop an award-winning grant application to transform the corridor. Our team leveraged past initiatives and community input to identify safety countermeasures that would effectively improve safety and transit access. Improvements included crosswalks, pedestrian hybrid beacons, bike lane enhancements, and transit enhancements.
Additionally, our team included funds for a pilot deployment of emergency vehicle preemption (EVP) technology along Gallatin Pike, allowing NDOT to test devices at six intersections and up to 60 emergency vehicles. Ultimately, NDOT was awarded $13 million, making Nashville one of only two jurisdictions in Tennessee to receive an implementation grant to date. As a result, NDOT considers KCI as their go-to grant application consultant.
