KCI collaborated with the Howard County Utility Design Division to conduct a visual assessment of at-risk water and sewer infrastructure, employing a multidisciplinary team of experts to evaluate assets located near local wetlands and streams.

The project sought to document asset conditions, prioritize sites, and facilitate short and long-term planning for sustainable solutions. KCI’s comprehensive approach included field inspections, data collection, conceptual recommendations, and emergency repairs for exposed sewer and water main pipes. Through negotiation with the Maryland Department of the Environment, our team secured a Regional Letter of Authorization, streamlining permit processes for repairs by eliminating the need for multiple individual permit applications.

This innovative, multi-faceted venture not only enhances public safety and environmental sustainability, but also sets a precedent for simplified permitting processes and infrastructure repairs. Through this project, KCI positively impacted both the engineering industry and the local community by promoting infrastructure resilience and identifying funding opportunities for future generations.
