After years of passionate pursuit, the City of Duluth was awarded a federal grant to replace the defunct 110-year-old steel truss bridge that once served as a connection over the Chattahoochee River between Duluth and Johns Creek.
In recognition of the historical importance of this crossing, the existing structure was removed, salvaged, and repurposed for public art in the surrounding parks, thus allowing a modern bridge to be constructed in its place that was designed to be a near-replica of the preexisting infrastructure. During the construction phase, KCI provided CEI services while navigating various project complications such as environmental challenges, price increases, material shortages, labor shortages, and meticulous coordination between seven government entities.
After completion, the new bridge provided increased accessibility between the community parks, trails, and canoe launches on either side of the river. The success of this project re-established the connection between the communities while maintaining the significance of the historic landmark that previously stood in its place.
